What You Need to Know About Garnet
The name garnet is derived from the Latin word “granatus” which means seed. When garnet was first discovered, they resembled the form of seeds. Garnet is also used to describe different colors of gemstones and it is indeed the gemstone you often see in antique stores. The most popular color of the gemstone garnet is the deep warm red unfortunately this is what most people know about the color of this gem, what most people don’t know is that the garnet has series of colors making it the gemstone with most variety of colors.
He only color the garnet does not offer is the color blue, whereas it possesses the color of all the hues of colors red and green and also yellow and orange. Garnet is abundant and it occurs in many places though only certain locations have specific color of garnet.
There are many colors the gemstone garnet offers however, few are favored by its consumer such as the color of red, purple, green, orange and even those that are colorless. Garnet can be cut in several shapes and sizes to name pear shape, oval, hearts, trillion and square. This faceted gemstone also cuts in rose cuts and even fashion beads.
Garnet’s hardness ranges from 6.5 to 7.5 which make it reasonably durable but not as durable as the amethyst, diamond, cubic zirconia and citrine. Do not however underestimate the hardness of garnet as it can chip if struck hard. Garnet cannot withstand prolonged boiling but can do good with steam soaked in ultrasonic cleaner.
Garnet is known to be the bearer of loyalty and devotion and takes away the sadness of the heart. It is also known to cure illness and helps calm emotions and tend to physical pain. It also helps the bearer be more energetic at work and wards of laziness. Overall, garnet has this encouraging effect on the wearer.
Bridesmaids to the rescue!
Well, I am the real life Jane Nichols from 27 dresses! I've been a bridesmaid for about the same number of weddings. A large number of these weddings were family ones. What can I say in my defense? I just love the idea of a wedding, of swearing to a life of togetherness and love! A wedding, for me, means a vow to stand together through thick and thin, forever till the end of time! Does that sound a little too romantic and idealistic? That's what weddings are meant to be!
I love the whole deal – from helping with the wedding planning and picking of dresses, organizing and executing some smashing bachelorette parties and of course, that teary end of day speech because each wonderful woman I've stood for have been a very special and integral part of my life.
Deal With Stress
As a 'veteran' bridesmaid, let me tell you, you learn to deal with stress. Each new wedding has taught me that I'm not there just to attend on the bride and my friend but to be a sounding board; to calm her when she is agitated and if need be, to take over till the bride is back on her feet and raring to go. If you intend to be a bridesmaid and have been privileged enough to be asked to this honor for a friend or family member, remember it is an infinitely special moment that you have been asked to partake in. The bride puts infinite trust in you so try not to get things wrong! Stressed out? Don't be!
It's 'Her' Day!
One basic rule to keep in mind is that the wedding is not about your choices and suggestions; it is designed for the bride and the groom. It is their idea of a ceremony that will keep them bonded together in love and harmony for a lifetime. Bridesmaids exist to fulfill the bride's every wish. This might be a task because brides are notorious for overnight changes into 'bridezillas' but it can also be a lot of fun to help in the organizing, registering and all the little things that go in between.
Volunteer
If you have a specific talent, do tell the bride that you are at her service. For example, I enjoy the art of calligraphy and if I say so myself, I'm relatively good at it. Keeping this in mind, I generally take on the task of addressing invitations and all things that require fancy lettering. It takes a big burden off the bride's shoulders when she can hand over tasks to someone she loves and trusts - Her bridesmaid!
On the auspicious day, the bride is in too much of a jitter to take care of practical yet unexpected things. Unexpected situations may make a large difference to the quality of the ceremony. Keep your eyes wide open as a bridesmaid, anticipate the needs of the lady in command and hurry to rectify any perceivable error at the earliest. Bridesmaids to the rescue!
