It's Not Just Right…It’s Bang (Le) On!
I love bangles. Any type of bangles and any of its avatars, sassy (cuffs, charms) or suave (bracelets, kadas) are delightful. You could wear a strong chunky piece in cantaloupe with a severe black suit for a bit of verve. Or you could go with a single silver bangle with a batik, magenta jumpsuit for cheeky-chic. There are just so many options! One actually feels bad for having only two wrists.
Flick That Wrist
This season, I see a couple of directions in which the bangle trends would go:
- Bangle-Bracelets: They say women can’t make up their minds. Fortunately, often, they don’t need to. Do we want a bangle? Or is a bracelet better? There’s no need to decide. The bangle-bracelet has made an entry and, from the looks of it, it’s here to stay. Wear one in silver with rhinestone detailing to up the poshness quotient. Or you could choose a shell and enamel piece for subdued bohemia.
- Stacks: This trend is the mantra of more. Wear a few bangles. Then put on some more. A few more on top of those. Finally, add another dozen to complete the look. Given that this mode of wearing bangles is dramatic, you needn’t play safe with your choices. Don’t just stick to wearing only metals or only plastics or enamels at a time. Mix it up!
Here’s what you could try: A few silver bangles, some thick spherical ones in candy colors (think bubblegum pink or egg-yolk yellow) and even a couple of leather strings. Now raise that hand and hold up traffic!
- Cuffs: First, there was leather. Then after we’d finished channeling rock stars, we decided to move on from this style. We couldn’t. So, we retained the cuff but experimented with material. The result? You now have some nice ones in enamel and big stones or latticed in silver and gold. In fact, you can also try some interesting pieces in fabrics such as lace and jute. Oh, by the way, there’s still leather.
- Classics: Finally, we come a full circle (given that we are talking about bangles, this is a fortunate shape to come to). This is when we’re done with fads. This is for the quiet grace and dignity we yearn to return to at some point. That’s when we get back to our basics. These could be the sweet, simple link bracelet in white gold, the Cartier Trinity piece, or even the delicate one with charms.
It’s like having Zen on the wrist.
Here’s a style tip you can’t go wrong with. Wear bangles on only two occasions – one, when you see the sun in the sky, and two, when you don’t.
