The name garnet is derived from the Latin word “granatus” which means seed. When garnet was first discovered, they resembled the form of seeds. Garnet is also used to describe different colors of gemstones and it is indeed the gemstone you often see in antique stores. Do not however underestimate the hardness of garnet as it can chip if struck hard. Garnet cannot withstand prolonged boiling but can do good with steam soaked in ultrasonic cleaner.

Garnet is known to be the bearer of loyalty and devotion and takes away the sadness of the heart. It is also known to cure illness and helps calm emotions and tend to physical pain. It also helps the bearer be more energetic at work and wards of laziness. Overall, garnet has this encouraging effect on the wearer.
